The Cincinnati Bengals are setting their sights on a revitalized start to the upcoming NFL season, buoyed by the return of quarterback Joe Burrow. The Bengals have gotten off to a rough start every season since Burrow’s rookie year in 2020. They’re truly expecting that a healthy Burrow can lead to big strides for the team. Now, with Burrow back, the coaching staff knows they need to lay a better and bigger foundation for success right from the start.
From day one, it’s been clear that Joe Burrow is all in, determined to put himself out there every chance he gets this season. This swing into action illustrates his willingness to assume charge of the entire offense, one he directed to consecutive touchdowns on his five preseason drives. Coaches and players both are optimistic that this will all pay off when the regular season starts.
In a flurry of big plays all of the sudden Burrow being healthy marks a transformational turnaround for the Bengals. His past injuries had crippled the team’s offensive flow, especially at the start of each season. This go-around, the Bengals are counting on Burrow to supply the jolt their offense has been seeking. They’re hoping that his addition will spark their game plan from the opening scene.
Dan Pitcher, the Bengals’ quarterbacks coach, acknowledged the team’s past struggles with early-season performance. He stated, “Unfortunately, early-season performance is not a current part of [our established] foundation.” This frank appraisal highlights not only the team’s acknowledgement of the problem at hand but their determination to fix it.
Despite all that, Pitcher is pretty encouraged by Burrow’s overall health and what the team has accomplished in their offseason preparation. He noted, “That’s a reality that we understand and that we’ve really taken a lot of steps to remedy. I think we’ve had a good camp. I think [Burrow] is in a really good place.” This seekers’ optimism has its origins in an increasing confidence grounded in what has been happening inside the organization.
As veteran offensive lineman, Ted Karras added, that’s just the nature of business when you’re doing what we do at the highest level. He remarked, “There’s always going to be anxiety when you perform in the NFL.” Every player can relate to this feeling as they prepare for the rigors of pro football on the highest level. In this hyper-competitive league, each and every game has the potential to pivot their entire season.
As the Bengals advanced toward their season opener, head coach Zac Taylor harped on the significance of execution. He stated simply, “We just gotta go out there and get it done.” This simple tactic serves as a great example of the mentality needed for continued success as the team heads into the regular season.
The Bengals’ upcoming season is crucial not only for their playoff aspirations but for establishing a new trajectory for early-season performance. The Burrow under Center era has begun in earnest with a new resolve to defeat old demons. Fans are energized and thinking that this season could be a turning point for the long downtrodden franchise.
