The Buffalo Bills have officially signed wide receiver Gabe Davis to their practice squad. This acquisition represents a significant homecoming for the 26-year-old. The Bills drafted Davis in the fourth round in 2020. He’s currently working his way back from a torn meniscus in his left knee, an injury suffered last November. He plays his second comeback with the Bills after a season with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars cut him loose on May 7, 2024.
Davis’s NFL story turned out really well, as he created great production over his four-year career with the Buffalo Bills. He finished his three years with 163 catches for 2,730 yards (16.7 yards per catch) and 27 touchdowns. These defining performances elevated his image as an invaluable dual-threat and game-changing playmaker on the field.
It was just last offseason that the Jacksonville Jaguars inked Davis to a three-year, $39 million deal with $24 million guaranteed. This investment proved doomed from the start, with Walker’s time in Jacksonville being notably short-lived after struggling through his rookie 2024 season. In ten games he only had 20 receptions for 239 yards and 2 TDs. His average of 12.7 yards per catch represents the lowest figure of his five-year career. Impressively, Davis’s output featured two missed would-be TD catches during his breakout week’s contest against the Chicago Bears in London.
Davis’s return to Buffalo comes after he spent the last few days visiting the team. He first came to the Bills on August 20 after spending time with the Pittsburgh Steelers on two separate occasions. His longstanding relationship with the Bills inspires trust, especially with quarterback Josh Allen.
“I love Gabe, and I’m sure I’ll see him over the next day or two.” – Josh Allen
As Allen looks ahead, he told the Indy that he feels very positive about Davis’s recovery and their continued companionship. He spoke to the impact Davis has had on the team thus far and his future ability to lead.
“And happy to see him. I obviously love that guy. He was awesome when he was here, and I know he’s getting back to full health here soon. So, who knows? We’ll see.” – Josh Allen
Davis is still in the process of rehabilitation. The Bills organization is certainly hoping to see him return to form and have a big impact on the team’s offense once more before he departs. His return signifies a reunion with familiar faces and an opportunity for Davis to prove his skills in a familiar environment.
