Pollock, the brilliant and dynamic rebounder, is due to depart Worcestershire County Cricket Club. That’s how he’ll wrap up his four-year stint at New Road. Even at 30, Pollock became quite the addition to the clubhouse. He’s moved the needle almost 2,000 runs in all formats since joining the club.
Pollock’s own cricketing path had started at Worcestershire, where he began as a junior before spending five years with Warwickshire. For the next four seasons he returned to Worcestershire, where he played for the remainder of his career. Pollock had 86 career appearances for the club. He made a few crazily impressive achievements such as scoring the fastest score of 180 runs off only 138 balls. It was a relief to see that stunning display, last season’s One-Day Cup match against Middlesex.
As he gets set to leave, Pollock reflected in a club release about his time with the team.
“I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity to have represented Worcestershire CCC for the last four seasons.” – Ed Pollock
While at Worcestershire, Pollock pounced on her opportunities to show her versatility, scoring centuries in red-ball and white-ball matches. His participation has been essential. Worcestershire at present find themselves bottom of County Championship Division One, 35 points adrift of safety with three games remaining.
While the league campaign has not been easy for Worcestershire, they have produced some consistently superb performances in the One-Day Cup this year, including reaching the final. The team will play Hampshire on September 20, aiming to bring home the title.
At the end of the summer, Pollock’s contributions to Worcestershire earned him praise from his head coach Alan Richardson.
“Ed can be very proud of his time here at Worcestershire, where he made some very important contributions for the team on many different occasions,” – Alan Richardson
He added, “He is a hard-working professional who has always worn the shirt with pride.”
For Pollock’s varied career the move represents the closing of an illustrious chapter and for Worcestershire County Cricket Club it is a time of hope and excitement. They are preparing for their semi-final matches as well as the final. They seek to further develop the robust groundwork that was established during Pollock’s leadership.
