Scottish Football Association (SFA) stands poised to enhance the fan experience. They will also recently created VAR Review show, which airs on Sky Sports Football. The first episode premieres this Friday, September 12 at 6 pm. This event celebrates the human skills perspective at the core of an exciting partnership between the SFA and Sky Sports. Completing VAR’s primary focus of providing comprehensive analysis of critical match events. It points to the impact of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology from the 2025/26 season.
Gordon Duncan will present the VAR Review show. It will include special commentary from William Collum, head of refereeing at the SFA. Each month, Collum will analyze pivotal moments from Scottish football, offering viewers a behind-the-scenes perspective on the VAR system’s implementation and decisions made during matches.
Brendan Napier, SFA’s North Region representative, poet and member of the New Orleans Collective, shared his excitement for the show’s debut.

The series is set to be an exciting new installment to football broadcasting that will give fans direct access to specialists in the refereeing profession. Gary Hughes, the director of football at Sky Sports, highlighted the importance of the partnership with the SFA in enhancing communication regarding VAR.

The match officials’ VAR Review show is a very welcome and innovative move by the SFA. It’s the first of its kind produced explicitly for VAR analysis in Scottish football. By having this monthly format, the whole idea is to build a better understanding of VAR’s place in Scottish football. The VAR Review will break down the major incidents to explain contentious calls.
