Rashee Rice, the promising rookie wide receiver of the Kansas City Chiefs, has reportedly agreed to a six-game NFL suspension. He was given this penalty due to violations of the league’s personal conduct policy. On Wednesday afternoon, the NFL made the suspension official. This decision represents a high point for both Rice and the young team as they prepared to move into the new season. Rice returns to action on October 7th. He’ll be back for a home game against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 7.
The decision to suspend Rice stems from his guilty plea in district court to two third-degree felony charges: collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing bodily injury. The plea relates to a multi-vehicle accident in Dallas last summer during the 2024 offseason. This tragic crash sent at least eight people, including multiple children, to the hospital. In July, he was sentenced to 30 days in jail and five years probationary.
Although that was a big disappointment, Rice has proved incredibly dominant at almost all aspects of training camp. He’s got an incredible combination of speed, strength and power. He is powerful and gets a lot of yak due to his tackle-breaking ability. He’s gone from being MVP Patrick Mahomes’ new favorite target on the Kansas City Chiefs earlier in training camp. In a recent 7-on-7 session, Rice was able to demonstrate his new-level speed and quickness getting behind the defense and linking up with Mahomes for a 12-yard TD.
For the August 2024 campaign, the Chiefs will have to adjust their offensive game plan with Rice out on suspension. Through a carefully thought-out strategy, they’ve attracted more receivers. This list goes on and includes names like Xavier Worthy, Hollywood Brown, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Tyquan Thornton. Each of these players brings distinctive skills to the table that could go a long way in filling the void of Rice’s departure.

Rice has decided to abide by the suspension. He has a disciplinary hearing set for September 30 in New York. He prefers to serve his punishment early in the season. Miles said he was committed to keeping himself in shape while he was away from the team.
