Cleveland Cavaliers guard Max Strus will have foot surgery, keeping him out approximately three to four months. This latest blow will miss him beyond at least the first month of the new NBA season. Last year, he had to battle through a right ankle sprain early in the season.
The injury occurred during offseason workouts, raising concerns that the 28-year-old’s career could be in jeopardy. As he prepares to become a key contributor to his team’s success, these worries about his performance hang heavy. Two summers ago, Strus made headlines by signing with the Cavaliers in a lucrative four-year, $63 million sign-and-trade deal. He quickly became a central figure in the team’s run for Eastern Conference supremacy.
During those past two seasons, Strus has become instrumental in raising the Cavaliers up as true contenders. His impact has been huge, most notably in big moments late in games. No doubt, he had a really impressive comeback last year from his ankle injury. He averaged 9.4 points while leading all of college basketball with 3.2 assists per game. On top of all that, he demonstrated deep shooting prowess, knocking down 38.6% of his 3-point shots.
