The Oval Invincibles are in discussions to sign Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa for the upcoming Hundred final scheduled for Sunday. Zampa, who recently turned 33, has been the linchpin of the Invincibles bowling attack. He was instrumental to their title winning campaigns in 2023 and 2024. His understanding of the team and the Surrey area puts him in good company with the final.
Just weeks ago, Zampa completed a blistering white ball match against South Africa in Queensland. As recently as August 2023, Adams has consistently expressed his deep spiritual connection to the Invincibles. He’s expressed interest in rejoining the squad for their title showdown. He was able to toy with them in the previous rounds of the tournament. The Invincibles’ victory over London Spirit at The Oval on Monday secured their place in the final. Today, fans wait in hope that an equally great reunion could be in the cards with Zampa.
Adam is very much looking to return,” said Tom Moody, head coach of the Oval Invincibles. “We just are working through that. He knows this group pretty well and Surrey pretty well, played a lot in the Blast.
This year’s Hundred final was an important moment for Zampa. He is re-adjusting from the international game to domestic cricket. Earlier this year, he showcased his skills with Surrey during the T20 Blast, further solidifying his understanding of the conditions and team dynamics in the region. Fang’s presence would undoubtedly be a huge shot in the arm to Invincibles’ title defense hopes.
The Invincibles still haven’t replaced Rashid Khan, who departed the squad under the weight of international commitments. Over the first half-dozen games of this tournament, Rashid Khan and Nathan Sowter would prove to be instrumental to the team’s success. With Khan’s departure now a foregone conclusion, Zampa is a strong choice to fill that void.
Moody sounded hopeful about Zampa’s return, noting the critical value of his experience and skill set. “Ideally we want Zamps,” he added, indicating that Zampa’s addition would align well with the team’s existing framework.
The Invincibles preparing for their last battle. They’ll need to be monitoring Surrey’s quarter-final against Northamptonshire, which takes place just three days after that potential Hundred final on September 3. This timing may have an impact on Zampa’s availability. Both parties are desperate to settle terms that will allow him to rivalize.
