Texans Face Early Season Challenge as RB Joe Mixon is Set to Miss First Four Games

In addition to the Houston Texans opening their season, the Cincinnati Bengals will be without RB Joe Mixon. He’s expected to miss at least the first four games due to an ankle injury he incurred in the offseason. The 29-year-old player is coming off his first Pro Bowl appearances. He featured an all-time great senior 2024 rushing season, rushing for 1,016 yards and 11 touchdowns. This is an unfortunate development and a huge blow for the Texans. They have been moving quickly to minimize the effect of his departure.

Mixon is in his first season with the Texans after coming over from the Cincinnati Bengals. Since joining the team in May, he’s easily become one of our most valuable assets. While his play last season deserved all the accolades it received, his injury has put the Texans in a position to need to pivot instantly. He’ll head to the reserve/non-football injury list. This decision allows the team some roster flexibility while he continues his rehabilitation.

To prepare for Mixon’s likely absence, the Texans signed four-time Pro Bowl running back Nick Chubb in the offseason. Chubb’s successful seven-season tenure with the Cleveland Browns just ended. Now, he brings all that experience and skill to the Texans’ backfield. His extensive proven track record in the league would make him a competent replacement as Mixon recuperates.

To compound Denver’s problems, the Texans drafted Woody Marks in the fourth round of this past April’s NFL draft. The former USC standout adds depth to the running back position and further demonstrates the Texans’ commitment to fortifying their roster in light of Mixon’s injury. Marks’ collegiate experience can provide that necessary support. With Chubb by their side, they’re up for overcoming the obstacles of a rocky start.

The Texans’ approach is a testament to an increasing knowledge of the ubiquitous, often career-altering challenges that injuries can pose in the NFL. The organization signing Chubb and drafting Marks to increase their competitiveness. They would like to have their running game firmly in place by the time Mixon is back.
