Robert Porcher to Join Lions’ Wall of Honor on September 14

The Detroit Lions will be inducting former defensive end Robert Porcher into their Ring of Honor. He will be inducted to the “Pride of the Lions” wall of honor during halftime of their home opener against the Chicago Bears on September 14. Porcher played his entire 13-year career with the Lions. His statue honors many of his on-field accomplishments, most notably his franchise record for career sacks, cementing his legacy as one of the team’s all-time greats.

The Lions selected Porcher in the first round (26th overall) of the 1992 NFL Draft. As a productive defensive end from 1992-2004, McKinnley’s on-field impact was substantial. During his NFL career, he made the Pro Bowl three times. He was selected as one of the franchise All-Time Team during the Lions’ 75th season celebration in 2008. His impact on the field has been just as impressive. He proudly joins 21 other franchise legends on the wall of honor.

Porcher on his way back to Ford Field to get his induction. He was just there recently for a joint practice against the Houston Texans. There, he was surprised with the thrilling news by his former teammates Chris Spielman, Jason Hanson, and Herman Moore.

Porcher is singularly focused on that work and steeped in the pride of professional accomplishment. He is an extraordinary parent, deeply engaged with his son, Ethan. His commitment to his family and his players has made him beloved by his players and fans.

Rod Wood, Lions President and CEO said they were excited to honor Porcher in this way.
