Rookies Adjusting to NFL Expectations
It’s not like Alexander has gained a ton of buzz working with the second-team defense All training camp. The 24-year-old will unfortunately be out until September or October with a still unspecified injury. This unfortunate timing raises serious concerns about how ready he can possibly be come the regular season. Beyond that, it could affect the success of his acclimation into the team’s defensive schemes.
History has proven Jared Wilson to be a very versatile and adaptable player. Wilson started training camp as the second-team center with Garrett Bradbury listed above him on the depth chart. When the season ended, his stellar play resulted in big country recognition: a position change. He was named the starting left guard in Week 2 of the preseason. Regardless of any of these changes, Wilson is at a crossroads in his career. When he saw time with the second unit during the second preseason game, eyebrows raised about his immediate future. His ability to do so will be key to his future. As far as training camp competition goes, he is probably the favorite to be the top backup come week 1.
Emerging Stars and Potential Leaders
Chase Brown, a raw but promising running back, should get plenty of touches as he develops this year. His coaches have instilled confidence in his talents, with Payton already viewing Brown as a lead back. This endorsement comes on the heels of Brown’s excellent performance during training camp and the preseason.
Harvey has been rewarded with the spotlight for his industriousness and improvement. Coaches expect that Harvey will find plenty of chances this season. His progress could further bolster the team’s running game, especially if he continues to impress during practice and in preseason games.
Turner has been making headlines all training camp. After three weeks rehabbing an ankle injury, he was back on the practice field August 15. Turner will help round out the Bears’ DT depth chart. He’ll be playing behind proven commodities like Grady Jarrett and Gervon Dexter Sr. His addition deepens the team’s defensive depth — a point proven in this year’s playoffs.
Positive Reports from Training Camp
Many of this year’s rookies have cited their visits to various training camps as memorable experiences. Gadsden’s soared through the offseason, proving he’s more than ready for what lies ahead. Such performances are even more crucial, as they establish the confidence and camaraderie that breeds winning sides.
>Quarterback Geno Smith talked recently about Jeanty’s upward trajectory, making the point that each day he’s impressed with how he’s improved since the first practice. That kind of repetitive grind is very important for rookies trying to adjust to the increased pace and ferocity of NFL training camps.
The health of Branson Taylor is another encouraging sign for the squad. After missing more than a week with a high-ankle sprain, he’s back as a full-go in practice this week. Taylor’s recovery will help strengthen his position on the roster as the team finalizes its lineup for the upcoming season.
