Richard Dawson Secures Three-Year Extension with Glamorgan

Richard Dawson has recently signed a three-year contract extension. He has agreed to continue as Glamorgan head coach until the end of the 2025 season. He assumed the role as head coach earlier this year after Grant Bradburn was relieved of his duties due to a misconduct charge. Now he’s officially been appointed to the FTA top spot.

Having joined Glamorgan in January, Dawson arrived with a rich flow of experience. He has been an elite performance pathway coach integral to the senior England coaching set-up since 2021. He was appointed as head coach of the England Lions for their 2020 tour of Australia. This unique opportunity provided him the platform to share his artistry on an increasingly international landscape.

On Dawson’s watch, Glamorgan now find themselves second in the Rothesay County Championship Division 2, level on points with leaders Leicestershire. His CV is impressive, including a six-year spell as head coach of Gloucestershire from 2015. In his inaugural campaign for the province, he led them to a One-Day Cup triumph and guided them to the T20 Blast knockout phases on four occasions.

Mark Wallace, Glamorgan’s director of cricket, expressed his satisfaction with Dawson’s continued commitment to the club.

“We’re delighted that Richard has agreed to commit to Glamorgan for the next three years. He’s shown this year the impact he can have across the club from top to bottom and he’s the ideal coach to take the club forward.” – Mark Wallace

Dawson will return to realigned full-time work with Glamorgan once he completes his Welsh Fire commitments in The Hundred tournament. This exhilarating change will occur in 2025! He expressed enthusiasm about his future with the team, stating:

“I’ve enjoyed working with everyone at the club this season and look forward to continuing this work with players and coaching staff in the seasons ahead.” – Richard Dawson

Dawson’s skills and approach have garnered support from within the club, with Wallace noting that he is “undoubtedly one of the best coaches in the country” and possesses a unique skill set to foster growth among both existing players and emerging talent.
