Pakistan’s 33-year-old wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan is officially signed on with the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. He’ll be playing in the very next Caribbean Premier League (CPL), which starts on August 18. His inclusion is in place of Afghanistan’s Fazalhaq Farooqi, who will miss the match because of international commitments. This marks Rizwan’s first appearance in the CPL, a significant step in his career as he seeks to make an impact in the tournament.
Rizwan’s inclusion in the Patriots follows his recent exclusion from Pakistan’s squad for both the tri-series against Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates, as well as the Asia Cup. This absence from national representation has opened the door for Rizwan to showcase his skills on an international stage, albeit in a different format. The Patriots are banking on his championship pedigree and natural talent making them a more dangerous team in the CPL.
This is not the only reason that the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots are rolling out the welcome mat to Rizwan. Their biggest move has been signing Pakistan spinner Usama Mir. He previously signed to play for the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons. Photo via Twitter/ViktorMir Mir has impressed thus far in the CPL. He made his debut worthy of a match-winning player, helping the Falcons to an upset victory against the favored Trinbago Knight Riders.
Rizwan’s proven quality as a wicketkeeping batsman is an extremely valuable asset to any team, especially to a franchise like the Patriots. His involvement will boost the squad’s prospects in the race. With his mix of experience and talent, he might be a real difference maker when playing their SEC East rival teams.
As the CPL season gets underway, Rizwan and Mir are hopeful for the opportunity to further their careers. They are each poised to make a big splash along their new teams. The inclusion of these players is a continuation of the evolution of the league’s captivating talents from around the globe cricketing nations.
