Warwickshire County Cricket Club are jumping for joy right now! They have re-signed all-rounder Keith Barker until the end of the 2026 season. This smart play foreshadows a mighty return for Barker. He had already spent a decade at the club from 2009 to 2018 before making the move to Hampshire ahead of the 2019 season.
Barker’s contributions to Hampshire were far-reaching during his tenure. In doing so he picked up 191 wickets and batted for 1,975 runs in all three formats. His time at the club made it apparent how good an all-rounder he was. His achievements at Warwickshire are what really shine through. He took 357 wickets and scored six first-class centuries, and was a key part of the club’s success, where they won the County Championship title in 2012.
As Barker looks forward to returning to Warwickshire, he does so with considerable experience. He has 497 wickets and 4,497 runs to his name in all formats for the club. His age – he’ll turn 39 in October – does not appear to affect his exuberance or passion for the game.
Ian Westwood, the director of cricket at Warwickshire, described Barker’s return as “a strategic short-term move that will bring proven quality and invaluable experience to our squad for 2026.” Westwood says that Barker’s addition will maximize the team’s ability to compete at the highest level.
“I’m really looking forward to playing for Warwickshire again. I’ve got so many great memories from my previous ten years there, it kind of feels like I am coming home.”
Barker’s long-standing relationship with Warwickshire make him a huge asset to the squad as they prepare for the new season. He’s made it clear that he’s dead set on proving he can still be a valuable player on the team.
