Caleb Williams Impresses in Bears Practice, Coach Johnson Commends Performance

Caleb Williams showcased his skills during recent training sessions with the Chicago Bears, drawing praise from both teammates and coaches. The new bruising rookie quarterback impressed all comers and led the team with 196 yards passing on 13/22 attempts. He tossed one touchdown pass, proving he could be the face of the franchise.

During practice, Williams exhibited impressive accuracy and decision-making, completing 6 of 10 passes for 107 yards and a touchdown in just 13 snaps across two drives. His performance included a notable connection with wide receiver Olamide Zaccheaus, where he went 5-for-6, culminating in a 36-yard touchdown. This connection was a microcosm of the developing synergy between the two players.

Williams’ most important precision first-down darts were to TEs Colston Loveland and Cole Kmet, respectively. His performance further highlighted his ability to leverage targets with mixed effectiveness. He relied on his strong connection with WR DJ Moore, a large contributor to his growing offensive identity.

In a remarkable display of skill during an 11-on-11 period, Williams connected with Zaccheaus over the middle on third down. Zaccheaus then turned that pass into a 45-yard touchdown, showing off the big-play ability of their new connection. What he needed to do was shine against the highly touted Buffalo Bills’ first-team defense. He wowed everyone with his accuracy and didn’t throw a single pick during the drills.

The young quarterback shined in high-pressure situations, notably excelling during a two-minute drill while continuing to develop his connections with Rome Odunze and Zaccheaus. These practices on Wednesday and Thursday showcased his talent to improvise in the moment and his poise as he plays under pressure.

On Sunday night, Williams started the first-team offense’s scoring with a dynamic touchdown on a seven-play opening drive. They went the full 92 yards and ended it powerfully with a touchdown. His accuracy was on full display once again as he put together an impressive 9-for-10 completion rate on 7-on-7’s.

The rookie made headlines during a red zone period as he found Odunze for back-to-back touchdowns, further solidifying his ability to deliver in critical situations. Head Coach Ben Johnson stated his expectation that Williams would make remarkable improvements from his first year in camp.

Reflecting on his progress, Williams stated, “I think I had a couple of those practices throughout training camp where I feel like I took two steps forward.” He admitted that he needed to set a tone for the rest of the team with his play.

“I think it sets a tone for how we expect ourselves to play, go out there, perform. So yeah, it was extremely important.” – Caleb Williams

Williams’s work ethic and mindset have him focused on making a big impact on the Bears this season. If his performance so far is any indication, he’s well on his way to becoming a strong defensive playmaker. He is going to be the clear key to all of his team’s future successes.
