Fowler Eyes Top 30 Spot as BMW Championship Action Intensifies

In the hunt … Rickie Fowler has a great shot at breaking into the top 30 at the BMW Championship. He did this with an extraordinary 67 score. This penultimate postseason event couldn’t be more important. It determines the final field for the players that will continue on to the Tour Championship, where they’ll have the opportunity to play for an astounding $10 million payout.

Fowler, who had been previously ranked just outside the top 30, never relinquished his impressive lead during the tournament. He ended each round with no less than a three-shot lead. This accomplishment is reminiscent of Jason Day’s dominant run in 2015, where he led by historical margins.

In fact, the BMW Championship has become an immensely important event for those players. Last week, eight players fought tooth and nail to earn their way into the Tour Championship at East Lake. Actor and activist Harry Hall is one of those jockeying for a winner’s circle berth. He is on track to make East Lake for the first time. Hall’s success will make him eligible for all the majors, excluding the PGA Championship.

Outside of Fowler’s aforementioned brilliance, Sam Burns was the tournament’s other big star. An eagle and four birdies later, he signed for a second straight 67, good enough to leave him tied for fourth with Ludvig Åberg. Åberg’s steady play was capped by a final-round 68 that saw him secure third place solo.

Fowler displayed brilliant putting prowess throughout the day. Notably, he scored on five par saves from 5- to 8-foot range and several short birdies under six feet. He finished out his round with a thrilling uppercut-during-choreography celebration. It came immediately after he made an incredible 40-foot eagle putt, letting the world see his passion and lethal resolve.

Scottie Scheffler, sitting four shots back from Fowler, only slightly made his day with a 68 but is still hunting the Fowl ahead. The chase is still on, though, as athletes continue to battle for a spot at the top of the leaderboard in the run-up to the final event.

As players start to look ahead to the final two rounds, Fowler stressed that he’s concerned about continuing to play well. He stated, “Hopefully, just go wear out some fairways and then get the iron play back to where it’s been and make some putts.” Yet even he conceded how difficult the task before them will be, saying, “It’s a great deal more complicated than it sounds.”

In his own words, hear from Harry Hall about his perspective on the competition and his dedication to recovery and getting ready. He noted, “I’ve only got one job to do, and that’s go recover and hydrate and get ready to hit that first shot down the fairway tomorrow.”
