Tottenham Hotspur Eye Savinho as Manchester City Evaluates Future Options

Tottenham Hotspur have allegedly opened talks with Manchester City over a summer transfer agreement for forward Savinho. The 19-year-old Brazilian made the move to City from Troyes last summer. His stellar outings are turning heads, particularly when you consider the nature of the current Manchester City inner circle. The club’s been adamantly against selling him permanently. Though even then, it would still be unclear whether they’d actually take up any offers that will surely be sent their way.

With that said, Savinho had an equally profound effect on Manchester’s fortunes last season. He finished the 2021-22 season with three goals and 13 assists in 48 total appearances. Having scored a particularly memorable goal in the Club World Cup. This moment illustrated his talent to dazzle in the biggest arenas. Although Savinho has done well with these successes, he is hitting a very competitive wall at City, especially now with Rayan Cherki having joined recently.

Savinho mostly played on the right wing, with Pep Guardiola’s tactical influence starting to show themselves. With Duke’s loaded frontcourt, this season he will be challenged to get regular minutes. He will face stiff competition from the likes of established talents Phil Foden, Oscar Bobb and Jeremy Doku. All four of them are competing for a single spot in the attacking lineup. During a recent pre-season match against Palermo, Savinho came on as a half-time substitute, showcasing glimpses of his talent in the 3-0 victory.

Latest reports indicate that Tottenham are interested in bringing Savinho on board. The reality is that Manchester City will require a monumental bid before they even consider selling their highly-rated prospect. As rumors and reports have circulated, these have sometimes pegged the agreed fee at around £43 million (€50 million) – a figure reportedly raised during contract negotiations. Sources close to the situation have emphatically stated that Savinho will not be departing any time soon. Manchester City are intent on keeping him at least until the new year.

During a successful season-long loan at Girona last season, Savinho was considered one of La Liga’s standout players. He bagged 11 league goals doing most of his work from the left flank of their front three. Perhaps it was this experience that lit the fuse to make other clubs so eager to know what he could become.

As the transfer window progresses, Manchester City’s recruitment plans for wide forwards hinge on whether Savinho ultimately leaves the club. His development and future with the team remain under close scrutiny, as both Tottenham and City assess their respective strategies moving forward.
