NBA free agent Malik Beasley is in a very difficult position at this time. He is currently the subject of a federal gambling investigation and himself is facing eviction from his apartment in Detroit. According to court records, Beasley was evicted Wednesday. He incurred this punishment after failing to pay an overdue sum of $7,355 in a court case fully.
The eviction came on the heels of a lawsuit filed by his former marketing agency Hazan Sports Management. The agency alleges that Beasley has failed to make good on a large advance of $650,000 provided earlier this year. Producer Kevin O’Connor This legal tussle comes on the heels of a momentous season for the Detroit Pistons. At the same time, Beasley was finalizing a deal for a three year, $42 million deal. Those negotiations are now stalled due to his current predicament.
Beasley, notably, is himself on the defensive in a federal gambling probe. This investigation is linked to accusations from the 2023-24 NBA season while he was with the Milwaukee Bucks. His attorney, Steve Haney, noted that an investigation is not the same as a criminal charge.
“An investigation is not a charge,” – Steve Haney
Haney underlined Beasley’s rights under the U.S. Constitution, stating that “Malik is afforded the same right of the presumption of innocence as anyone else under the U.S. Constitution. As of now he has not been charged with anything.”
This eviction case represents a sad closing door for Beasley, who has a long history of past financial woes. Earlier this year, one such eviction was dismissed back in March. With the unexpected outcome of the most recent lawsuit, he was ordered to leave the property.
With these hurdles to overcome, Beasley’s future in the sport is unclear. The results of that investigation should have a bearing on his status as a free agent and any further contracts he will be eligible to sign.
