The Miami Dolphins are preparing for their first season under new leadership in the NFL. Second-year offensive tackle, Patrick Paul, is taking over in a critical role. Longtime anchor Terron Armstead, a former Pro Bowler, retired in April. Now, when called upon, Paul is prepared to become the team’s starting left tackle. Paul is a mountain of a man, standing 6-foot-7, 332 pounds. It’s not just through all of these impressive physical skills that he’s done this.
Paul was a second-round selection in 2024 NFL Draft. He’s already left his mark on the field during his rookie campaign, starting three games thus far. With the offseason behind him, he has dedicated himself to improving his game, training two to three times a day. His commitment to excellence is evident. He rewatched all of his reps from last season and meticulously studied every left tackle in the league to expand his knowledge and skill set.
Man, Pat, you’ve changed a lot since last year!” shouted running back Quinton Bell to teammate Patrick Carr. He cheered Paul’s incredible metamorphosis after joining the club.
Paul’s style of play is just as captivating away from the field as it is on it. He’s no shrinking violet himself, taking a page from UFC fighter Conor McGregor’s playbook. Today, he employs this trash-talking persona that’s evolved into a defining feature of his practice sessions. If for some it is disarming, for others it is a source of competitive advantage.
“One of the athletes that I admired most growing up was Conor McGregor, and I liked the way he went about it,” Paul said. He’d beat the people before he even raced them just purely off of getting in their head.
