Brydon Carse Withdraws from The Hundred Due to Injury

England pace bowler Brydon Carse was the first confirmed withdrawal from The Hundred. He’s still working his way back from a foot injury that’s kept him out of action for the better part of six months now. The 30-year-old cricketer is pouring out of the multi-crore tournament and affecting his chances to square off. He will miss the Champions Trophy and be ruled out for the next three months of competitive action.

Carse, who is originally from South Africa, first suffered the foot injury earlier this year. It was when he was on England’s white-ball tour of India that things became more complicated. These cuts became nasty lacerations on the second toe of his left foot that introduced a bacterial infection. The injury was severe enough that Carse was even discussing possible amputation in June. His deteriorating condition had meant that he had to pull out of England’s last Test match against India. The announcement followed a huge and long bowling load in the first four Tests.

With health issues still a major concern, Carse contacted the England medical staff. Following their meeting, he made the call to walk away from The Hundred.

“At the end of a long series against India and following consultation with the medical staff, I am sadly not able to play for Northern Superchargers in The Hundred this year,” – Brydon Carse

Mitchell Stanley from Lancashire will replace Carse in the Northern Superchargers squad. While this represents a disappointment for Carse, he is hopeful he can continue to find success previously.

“I look forward to watching on from the sidelines and to representing the team again in the future.” – Brydon Carse

Not only will Carse miss The Hundred, but he is preparing himself for a return to action in September. He will be involved in a home white-ball series against South Africa. He is due to play series of both limited-overs formats in Ireland and New Zealand towards the end of this year. This leaves him with an opportunity to bounce back from his redemptive recovery.

The fast bowler’s recent episode just goes to show how frustrating it can be for athletes to come back from those injury lay-offs. As he heals, his fans, teammates and cricket lovers around the world hope to see him back on the pitch competing again soon.
