He has been indicted for five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault against three women. The federal charges come from incidents that allegedly occurred in 2021 and 2022. Partey has vehemently rejected all accusations made against him. He was granted conditional bail to reappear at the Old Bailey on September 2.
Partey’s legal troubles started when he was initially detained in July 2022. During his arrest, law enforcement withheld his identity from the press. This enabled him to continue playing for Arsenal as the investigations continued. The club confirmed that his contract ended on June 30, following the completion of five seasons after his signing for £45 million in 2020.
Partey’s situation involves grave charges. In his case, he was charged with two counts of rape associated with one woman, three counts of rape involving a second woman, and one count of sexual assault against a third woman. At a recent court date, Partey did not plead guilty. Instead, the court just verified that he was cognizant of charges against him and bail conditions.
Jenny Wiltshire, a representative from Hickman and Rose, stated, “Thomas Partey denies all the charges against him. He has fully cooperated with the police and CPS throughout their three-year investigation. He now welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name.”
Even with those serious allegations hanging over him, Partey was integral to Arsenal’s surprise title push last season. He made the most of his opportunity, featuring in 52 games in all competitions. Yet, his professional football career has become very much in doubt as he now suddenly is without a club.
In the past, Arsenal has said that they cannot comment on the case in progress, as it is a legal matter. “The player’s contract ended on June 30. Due to ongoing legal proceedings, the club is unable to comment on the case,” the club stated.
