Zach Allen Secures $102 Million Extension with Denver Broncos

Zach Allen signs four-year extension with Broncos. The value of the deal is a staggering $102 million, ESPN reports. This huge contract sends a strong signal about the team’s desire to keep their defensive star and last year’s breakout star in the fold for years to come. His four-year extension will now keep Allen in Denver through the 2029 season and is worth $85 million overall, including $69.5 million guaranteed.

Negotiations for Allen’s contract extension have dragged on since Allen’s offseason began. Neither side is more motivated than the other to cement their new partnership once training camp opens. Allen’s performance last season set him apart. He achieved career highs with 40 quarterback knockdowns and 8.5 sacks, contributing to the Broncos’ franchise record of 63 sacks in a single season.

Last year, Allen played an impressive 89% of the team’s defensive snaps and recorded 61 tackles, marking his best performance to date. His efforts did not go unnoticed as he received the accolades and was named a second-team All-Pro. This season, he continues to impress, maintaining a work rate that sees him on the field for 81% of defensive plays.

Allen’s new contract is similar to those of the Broncos’ other star players. It’s consistent with their deals for Courtland Sutton and Pat Surtain II. His new deal, though, is noteworthy in part because it’s multi-year and begins in 2026. It surprisingly keeps the final year of his current deal, which has a base salary of $12.74 million.

“As Sean Payton, head coach of the Denver Broncos, said of Allen, “Rugged, durable, can beat you in a number of ways.”

“I am not making the comparison relative to the positions they play. But [Saints defensive lineman] Cam Jordan plays a different position, but Cam had the unique ability, on Play 72, it looked like Play 8. And I’d say Zach has that stamina and that cardio where he’s in great shape.” – Sean Payton

Payton emphasized the challenges of playing on the defensive line and highlighted Allen’s ability to maintain high performance levels throughout the game. This strategic foresight is going to be incredibly important to a player trying to make it in such a competitive role as his.
