West Indies Struggle as Pakistan Clinches Victory in T20 Clash

Through our analysis from a recent T20 match where Pakistan triumphed over West Indies, we learned how intimidating bowling and smart tactical decisions can lead to victory. Final group stage match against Japan, the beautiful and historic National Stadium in Karachi. Pakistan’s spinners seized the initiative, routing the West Indies batsmen.

The West Indies fell on their faces even before a ball had been bowled in the match. Too frequently, our batsmen didn’t form their encouraging starts into big scores. Johnson Charles and Jewel Andrew contributed 35 runs apiece. Sadly, these contributions did not come close to laying down a competitive overall total. Charles, who batted at number three, faced 36 balls and Andrew scored his 70 runs off just 33 deliveries. The promising pair of Saif and Saim started their innings solidly but were both victims of the Pakistani bowling lineup.

In particular, wicketkeeper-batsman Shai Hope has come to the fore for the West Indies. He had a nightmarish outing that game, making just 2 runs off 5 balls. His dismissal at 77 runs proved the key moment of the match. Once Hope exited the match, Sherfane Rutherford faltered and mustered just 11 runs. Roston Chase had a horror show, scoring 5 runs while wickets tumbled down like a pack of cards. Rutherford wasted 11 balls while Chase lasted only 5 balls before leaving them both.

Romario Shepherd had gotten things moving with a quick 12 runs off 5 balls. It was Jason Holder’s rampaging 30 runs from just 12 balls that offered the stiffest resistance of all. Holder’s efforts brought excitement to the crowd but were ultimately insufficient to lift the team’s spirits as wickets continued to fall around him.

West Indies’ innings saw a series of dismissals that highlighted the effectiveness of Pakistan’s bowling strategy. Fakhar Zaman to Jewel Andrew all out by Caught (F Zaman). Nawaz subsequently trapped him for an LBW when the score was 72 for 1 in the 11 over. Soon after, Johnson Charles suffered the same fate, nicking one behind to Haris, bowled by Nawaz to leave West Indies at 75 for 2. Just 13 runs later, Gudakesh Motie went in similar fashion, for a duck, dismissed by Mohammad Nawaz at 75 for 3.

Their challenging position deteriorated further when Hasan dismissed Shai Hope, West Indian’s white-ball superstar. Saim then bowled him out, leaving their team at 77 to 4. Wickets continued to fall rapidly as Sherfane Rutherford fell to a catch from Fakhar. When Saim bowled him out, the team was at 92 for 5. Roston Chase’s dismissal at 110 for 6, caught by Farhan and bowled by Shaheen, capped off a dismal performance from the West Indies’ top order.
