Manchester United are working on the signing of FC Red Bull Salzburg striker Benjamin Sesko. The RB Leipzig forward will add to the depth of their attacking arsenal. The German Bundesliga club have kicked off preliminary discussions with RB Leipzig over bringing the 20-year-old wonderkid to the North-East. Since joining from Red Bull Salzburg two years ago, he’s been turning heads with his impressive play.
The 20-year-old Sesko, who is 6ft 4in, has quickly established himself as one of the most exciting talents in the Bundesliga. He’s on pace for a season total of 21 goals in all competitions last year. That brought his total to 39 goals in 87 league appearances for Leipzig. His impressive scoring pace has earned him 15th overall ranking among forwards in the entire league. Sesko’s top speed of 35.69 km/h ranks him 26th among 492 players in the Bundesliga, showcasing his explosive pace that has drawn comparisons to Manchester City’s Erling Haaland.
Manchester United’s interest in Sesko is becoming very serious. He is said to have chosen a potential switch to Old Trafford over the Tynesiders and other interested parties. This preference continues to be aided by a gentleman’s agreement between Sesko and Leipzig. It provides protection against the club refusing to allow him to leave if a better, more fitting offer arrives.
Christopher Vivell, then recruitment director at Leipzig, was instrumental in scouting Sesko. He first found him when Sesko was just 16 years old with Red Bull Salzburg. This personal connection could assist in future negotiations. United will be hoping to negotiate a deal that’s considerably better than the £33m they’ve offered for fellow target Ollie Watkins.
United’s approach this transfer window marks an interesting shift in strategy, focusing in on the need to add more pace to their squad. The addition of recent signing Bryan Mbeumo would help fulfill that long-standing desire. It provides a hint at the club’s desire to improve their attacking threat even further. Exploratory talks have taken place with Sesko’s representatives, indicating Manchester United’s serious intent to secure the forward’s services.
