Kobe Bryant’s Historic Sneakers Fetch $240,000 in Auction

A complete set of Adidas EQT Top 10 shoes worn by Kobe Bryant during his first start for the Los Angeles Lakers. It has now sold for a stunning $240,000. This sale, organized by SCP Auctions, is a big deal. That figure would mark the second-highest sum ever forked over for a pair of Kobe Bryant’s sneakers, trailing only a record set this past February.

On January 28, 1997, then 18-year-old Kobe Bryant made his first career NBA start against the Dallas Mavericks. In that game, he finished with 12 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the field. He added in three rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block over his time on the floor. Prior to playing in that game, Bryant had played in 34 games. He averaged only 6.4 points in limited 13 minutes per game of action.

240,000 The final price the shoes sold for, including the buyer’s premium. This auction price is indicative of the tremendous demand for items related to the influence, impact, and life of the late basketball icon. Earlier this year, a pair of Nike Kobe 8 Elite “Lakers Home” sneakers worn by Bryant took the auction block at Sotheby’s. Collectively, they raised a whopping $660,000! Those sneakers drew particular attention after being worn during a game in which he tore his Achilles tendon in 2013.

Since launching in 2011, SCP Auctions has become a dominant player in the sports memorabilia auction market. They have a proven record of sales of the biggest ticket items. The recent auction of Bryant’s first-start sneakers serves as a reminder that there is still a booming market for collectibles connected to his legacy.
