Joe Mixon Faces Extended Absence as Texans Prepare for Preseason

Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon will be banned for the next three preseason games. He sprained his ankle right before the start of training camp this offseason. When training camp opened, the new team placed him on the non-football injury list. This decision made things exceedingly more difficult as time ran down to the new season.

Considering that Mixon just recently celebrated his 29th birthday on July 25, that could be an issue. So far this summer, he’s missed all of OTAs and minicamp. The Texans’ coaching staff will reevaluate his condition closer to the start of the regular season, but his absence leaves a significant gap in the team’s offensive lineup.

Last year, Mixon proved he’s capable by surpassing 1,000 yards rushing and scoring 11 touchdowns. He put on an absolute show and went on to make the Pro Bowl during his first year with the Texans. His present injury has the Wizards and their fans worried.

In order to soften the blow of Mixon’s expected absence, the Texans have signed veteran running back Nick Chubb to provide reinforcements at that position. This shrewd play strengthens their depth in the backfield. As they get ready for their first preseason matchup with the Minnesota Vikings on August 9th, their minds are elsewhere. The Texans took a bold step in adding playmaker Woody Marks as their fourth-round pick in April’s NFL draft. This is great news for their running back depth!

Without Mixon available, expect Dameon Pierce and Dare Ogunbowale to dominate touches in the ground game. Pierce is currently on the physically unable to perform list, which raises questions about his availability for the upcoming games.

The Texans’ decision to sign Chubb and draft Marks reflects their proactive approach to ensuring a strong running game while navigating the uncertainty surrounding Mixon’s recovery. As training camp moves into high gear, the organization will monitor Mixon’s progress closely. They will certainly be interested in a speedy return to form as they prepare for regular-season action.
