Tim David Shatters Records with Fastest T20 Century for Australia

On Tuesday night, Tim David created history by scoring the fastest-ever T20 International century by an Australian. He achieved this amazing feat in just 37 balls during an eventful match with the West Indies. That explosive innings certainly took Australia all the way to winning it! They successfully pursued down the target of 214 runs with 23 balls remaining.

David provided a grandstand finish, scoring 11 sixes and six fours in his innings of 124 from 198 balls. He concluded his innings with a classy 102 not out. His vibrancy with the bat gave Australia an authoritative victory. Moreover, he bettered Josh Inglis’ record too, who made a century off 43 balls previously against Scotland in September 2024.

David’s century is now one of the joint third fastest T20I centuries ever taken. This major accomplishment includes T20 and ODI matches played by full members of the International Cricket Council. He does share this achievement with India’s Abhishek Sharma. Abhishek’s landmark innings came in as quick a time—134 balls—when he made his maiden century against England in February 2025.

As improbable as the ascendance of Tim David may be, it is doubly so because of his unconventional background. As an athlete, he was formerly Singapore’s top-ranked swimmer. He made his debut for Australia in 2022, and almost immediately became a key cog of the national team’s wheel. His performances in the recent series have only cemented his growing importance to Australia’s T20 plans.

After the game, David said he was pretty happy and shocked at his success.

“I was just having a great time. I didn’t think I would get the opportunity to get a hundred for Australia so I’m stoked,” – Tim David

Australia’s captain, Mitchell Marsh, praised David’s extraordinary innings, emphasizing the impact it had on the game.

“There are no words for that innings from David,” – Mitchell Marsh

The victory over the West Indies proved Australia’s batting depth and willingness to dig in when chasing a score down. The team successfully chased down the challenging target of 214-4 set by the West Indies, with David’s explosive contribution being the highlight of the match.
