Adam Svensson Soars with Eagle Finish to Lead 3M Open

Adam Svensson, as expected, went super low at the 3M Open on Thursday. He finished with an 11-under par 60, the second lowest score on the PGA Tour this entire season. He capped his round with a remarkable 48-foot eagle putt on the 18th hole. That amazing shot put him in first place on the leaderboard.

Svensson started his day on a high, showing exceptional touch and control through the bag en route to a bogey-free, 66. When reflecting on his preparation he sounded pleased with himself saying, “Had a great range session today. His consistent play allowed him to maintain momentum, although he noted a moment of doubt when he faced a challenging shot.

“I have a pretty big gap between my 3-iron and my 3-wood, and I hit a terrible shot. I thought if I hit a 3-wood, it was just going to fly to the back of the green, and I kind of had to hit a 3-iron perfect to even cover the water. But I figured that was my best chance to shoot 59, so I gave it a go,” – Chris Gotterup.

Svensson capped off his round in style, making a 20-foot eagle on the 18th hole. In doing so, his effort put him two shots clear of runner-ups Sam Stevens and Thorbjorn Olesen who both shot quality cards of 62. Tied the TPC Twin Cities course record by a stroke. Unfortunately, Paul Goydos was the one that first set that record back in 2017 at the 3M Championship.

Close behind were Rickie Fowler and Emiliano Grillo, at six under par. At the same time, Chris Gotterup rode a third-place finish in last week’s British Open to a thrilling win at the Scottish Open. Zac Blair, Chris Kirk, Jake Knapp and Brendan Valdes each put their names in the record books. They were only one point away from being at the top of the standings. Patrick Rodgers and Gary Woodland both finished their rounds at 67, with Keith Mitchell making his mark with a 68. Cam Davis finished a scorecard with 71 to round out the day.

It was Svensson’s blistering putting that was creating headlines and winning him accolades even as he looked back on his historic round.

“Just really putted amazing, I made a bunch of breakers. It was probably my best putting round I ever had,” – Adam Svensson.
