Australia’s T20 squad put on a brilliant display in the second match against the West Indies. They achieved victory in emphatic fashion, racking up a total of 150 runs for the loss of just two wickets. The contest played out on historic Sydney Cricket Ground, on Saturday in front of a sold-out crowd of ecstatic Australian supporters. This impressive victory was another exhibition of Australia’s T20 dominance.
Cameron Green was the hero, blasting his way to an unbeaten 56 runs off only 32 balls. His batting display was highlighted by a blistering strike rate of 175.00, featuring four maximums and three boundaries. Green’s aggressive approach with the bat was key to Australia posting a competitive target. He faced eight dot balls during his innings, demonstrating his ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities while maintaining pressure on the West Indies’ bowlers.
Josh Inglis was the form player, scoring an explosive 78 runs not out and anchoring Australia’s innings. He offered Green indispensable cover for the entire bout. Inglis faced 50 balls and contributed to the team’s solid foundation alongside Green. The pair’s century-making partnership was key to Australia posting a daunting total for the West Indies to chase down. On top of that, extras padded the total by six runs.
The West Indies, led by captain Shai Hope, never gathered any momentum over the course of the innings. Brandon King and Shai Hope enjoyed their moments but failed to turn starts into big scores. The West Indies’ batting lineup faced challenges against Australia’s disciplined bowling attack, which effectively restricted their scoring opportunities.
Glenn Maxwell made just 12 runs off 10 balls, and Mitch Marsh scored a limited 21 runs before being sent back to the pavilion. Through big contributions from all the big players, Australia showcased their overall depth of batting and team versatility.
The West Indies were left with a massive ask to run down Australia’s score. The boys gave everything, an effort captained by the indomitable spirit of Shai Hope. The team continued to have difficulty establishing meaningful connections and maintaining a high-scoring pace.
