Thomas Partey, a 32-year-old midfielder who recently played at Arsenal, charged with raping and sexually assaulting several women. The charges were announced just four days after his contract with the club expired June 30, 2023. The legal allegations against Partey, which include three different women and cover incidents in London reported to have taken place between 2020 and 2022.
Two counts of some sort of rape against one female. In addition to all that, they include three semi-violent counts of rape against a second woman, and one count of sexual assault against a third woman. Partey, who was initially detained in July 2022, denied all charges throughout the trial, which began in May 2023. Even during these months of ongoing investigations, he kept playing for Arsenal — and impressively — until his contract ran out.
Partey’s legal team is headed by Jenny Wiltshire of Hickman and Rose. According to Wiltshire, “Thomas Partey denies all the charges against him. He has fully cooperated with the police and CPS throughout their three-year investigation. He now welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name.”
The case will be heard at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London on August 5. In this upcoming hearing, the court will decide his fate based on the grave accusations made against him.
Arsenal’s head coach, Mikel Arteta spoke about the matter at a recent press conference. He claimed that the club had done everything right in addressing the issue. “The club was very clear in its statement,” Arteta remarked. He added, “There are a lot of legal matters that are very complicated so I cannot comment on any of that.”
Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy is in charge of the investigation. He argued for the need to stand by the women who spoke out with their stories of harassment. “Our priority remains providing support to the women who have come forward,” Furphy stated.
