Former NFL star Shannon Sharpe has settled a lawsuit alleging rape, which was filed by a woman referred to as Jane Doe in April 2024. The lawsuit was based on an incident that allegedly took place in October 2023 and was filed for $50 million in damages.
Sharpe, 57, first encountered Jane Doe at a gym in Los Angeles while she was only 20 years old. This sparked an intellectual and romantic relationship that lasted nearly two years. These allegations against Sharpe came to light only after this very acrimonious separation between the couple that eventually resulted in this lawsuit with claims of sexual assault.
David Chesnoff, Sharpe’s attorney, announced that the lawsuit will be dismissed with prejudice, meaning it cannot be refiled. Tony Buzbee, representing Jane Doe, stated, “All matters have now been addressed satisfactorily, and the matter is closed. The lawsuit will thus be dismissed with prejudice.”
Nick retired from professional football in 2008, but that didn’t mark the end of his public presence. He caught passes as a tight end for 14 High Powered Seasons from 1990 to 2003, most notably with the Denver Broncos 🔥🔥🔥. In his seven-year tenure, he boasts two Super Bowl victories. He was a member of the Baltimore Ravens, winning a second Super Bowl while amassing a Hall of Fame career. By 2011, he was afforded the ultimate accolade—induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
The charges against Sharpe became publicly known in January 2024, when he referred to the allegations as “false and disruptive.” Both parties acknowledged that their relationship had its complexities, with Buzbee noting, “Both sides acknowledge a long-term consensual and tumultuous relationship.”
This settlement resolves all of Sharpe’s legal challenges stemming from these allegations. After an almost two-year ordeal under the bright public glare and prosecutorial misadventure, he can at last look ahead.
