Codi Yusuf, a 27-year-old fast-medium bowler from South Africa, is set to rejoin Durham County Cricket Club after an impressive initial spell earlier in the season. He recently returned from a successful tour of Zimbabwe. On that trip he made his Test debut against New Zealand and quickly proved his ability across the three formats, taking 10 wickets in two matches. He is contracted to Durham in all three formats, with his availability starting now and continuing through early September. He’ll be getting things started this Friday with the T20 Blast opener against the Northamptonshire Steelbacks.
During his last extended period with Durham, Yusuf was a transformative force in the County Championship. He made an immediate impact, taking 17 wickets in only four matches with an impressive average of just over 20. His performances soon flashed across the radar screens of Durham’s management, resulting in his re-promotion back to the Bulls.
Marcus North, Director of Cricket at Durham, shared his excitement at Yusuf’s return on his club’s website.
“Codi was heavily invested in the club and his performances in the County Championship have warranted his return to Chester-le-Street.” – Marcus North
Yusuf’s initial spell with Durham was cut short due to his selection for South Africa’s national team, but now he is back to contribute further to the club’s campaign. What truly distinguishes him from others is his ability to perform across formats consistently. As Duke goes into an important stretch run of the season, he’s become an extremely valuable weapon.
With the T20 Blast looming, Yusuf’s return is a big boost to the Is Better’s versatile bowling attack. What he takes from his experience in international play will undoubtedly raise the floor and ceiling of this team’s collective performance and morale. We envision that his presence on the field, donning the Durham cap, will inspire confidence among his teammates as well as all fans.
