Jordan Nobbs Signs with Newcastle Women to Pursue Promotion Challenge

Jordan Nobbs has officially signed for Newcastle Women! It’s a pivotal time in her career, as she looks to continue guiding the Diamonds to their first-ever promotion into the top tier Women’s Super League (WSL). The 32-year-old midfielder has incredible pedigree from her previous clubs. She spent two and a half years with Aston Villa Women and had a very successful 13-year career at Arsenal Women.

After having reached the pinnacle of success with Aston Villa, Nobbs chose to go back to her roots. Last season, she led the Sky to a No. 5 seed in the league. On the field, Newcastle Women finished fifth in WSL2 and Nobbs is keen to see the black and whites scale the heights again.

Nobbs was born and raised in the North East, close to the borders of both Newcastle and Sunderland. He has never lost touch with the heart of that fertile region. She started her football education at Sunderland’s academy before leaving the North East at 17 to follow her ambitions. Now, with family and friends rallying behind her, Nobbs says she’s thrilled about this new chapter of her life.

“I feel like this is the perfect situation where I’ve gone from growing up in the North East to living my dream at Arsenal to then coming back to be a club that wants to push for promotion,” said Nobbs.

Her widely acclaimed experience in the WSL is impressive in that she is the league’s all-time leader in appearances. This background equips her with a hard-nosed view of just how competitive women’s football can be. Nobbs has been closely following WSL2 games, particularly those involving Durham, Sunderland, and Newcastle, and she believes that the league is evolving rapidly.

I’ll forever be thankful to being that seven-year-old boy that signed for Sunderland that developed me as a player, She said, looking back on her early development years in soccer.

Nobbs’ competitive spirit is evident. She stated, “I’m competitive, I’m a winner and I’m now with Newcastle. It’s been a long time since I was at Sunderland and Newcastle is now my club that I want to push and play well for, so I’ll be fully back in our team.”

Her return to the North East is a genuine homecoming. It creates a path for her to positively affect her community in her new local role. Whatever Newcastle Women achieve, Nobbs has a commitment to their success. She wants to help make this an exciting time, not just for the club, but for the league as a whole.

She admitted that after departing Aston Villa she was ready for almost anything but was attracted to Newcastle’s ambitious projects. Everyone tracks your football career, but they don’t know the whole story. I left the community when I was 17. I came out here and I feel like I missed out on all that…it’s a dream to have all my family and friends here supporting me at Newcastle,” relayed Nobbs.

She is starting an exciting new chapter with Newcastle Women. Her guidance and knowledge of the game has everyone excited to see how it’ll boost the team’s promotion ambitions. Nobbs’ passion for the game and commitment to her local club may prove instrumental in their quest for success in the coming seasons.
