Liverpool FC confirm they will retire their number 20 shirt in memory of their late supporter. Liverpool is having a special tribute ahead of their match against Preston on Sunday. A special version of “You’ll Never Walk Alone” will be sung before the 3 p.m. kick-off. In a sign of support, as the match is played, Preston will join their visitors by placing a wreath of poppies on their behalf.
Michael Edwards, a key figure at Liverpool, stated, “By retiring this squad number, we are making it eternal – and therefore never to be forgotten.” He emphasized that the decision was made with consideration for the sentiments of supporters and that “as far as Liverpool Football Club is concerned, he will be forever our number 20.”
