Chan Kim Soars Ahead with Eagle on Fourth Hole at ISCO Championship

On Friday, Chan Kim augmented that score with a long-range Walk-Off performance at the ISCO Championship. He pushed his advantage to five shots after making an incredible eagle on the par-4 fourth hole. At the end of practice, Kim nailed a beautiful 36-yard chip shot from that same right side angle for the second day in a row. This cardio-inducing play pretty much got him to his 2-under 68 today. Kim is all the way to 11 under for the tournament. He is 15 shots ahead of Andy Ogletree as he’s taken a pretty strong hold at this opposite-field PGA Tour event.

Kim’s final round got off to a great start with a birdie on the par-5 10th hole. He further broke any momentum his competitors would’ve had with an eagle on the par-5 seventh. Then, he made a jaw-dropping eagle on the par-4 fourth hole. His artistry had already been on display on Thursday, evidenced by his hole-in-one from 123 yards on No. 4. It’s the kind of performance that has brought him wave after wave of focus, for he still searches for that elusive first PGA Tour victory.

Kim had something of an up-and-down round going, full of bogeys and eagles. After dropping strokes on the par-4 11th, 16th and first holes, he remained sharp. His ability to recover with powerful shots has been crucial, as he’s shown throughout the tournament.

Kim was understandably introspective about his outstanding accomplishment at the par-3 fourth, saying,

“I don’t know what the odds are of doing that, but boy, if I could make four 2s on that hole I’d be very happy.” – Chan Kim

Kim started the tournament with an impressive opening round of 61. His four-shot lead is a testament to his experience as an eight-time winner on the Japan Golf Tour. A victory at the ISCO Championship would earn him that elusive crown. It would give him a two year exemption and a place in next year’s PGA Championship.

Kim emphasized the importance of maintaining patience throughout the tournament. He noted,

“I think this is a course where you just have to stay patient.” – Chan Kim

Kim skillfully dealt with all the challenges presented by Hurstbourne Country Club. With a combination of strategy and accuracy, he’s well on his way to winning the championship.
