Sri Lanka secured a convincing victory over Bangladesh in the third One Day International (ODI) match, wrapping up the series with a commanding performance. Sri Lanka’s bowlers dominated on Monday at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. With the ball, they bundled out Bangladesh for only 186 runs in a rapid 39.4 overs.
The Sri Lankan team introduced a number of future talents throughout the series. Strong contributions from Pathum Nissanka, Nishan Madushka, Kusal Mendis, Kamindu Mendis, and Charith Asalanka powered them to victory. Their batting lineup was determined to set a tone and rip the leash off. This would buttress their bowling: A Fernando, Dushmantha Chameera, Maheesh Theekshana, Dunith Wellalage, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Kamindu Mendis.
Bangladesh’s entire batting order was unable to stand up against the bowling attack from Sri Lanka. Opener Parvez Hossain Emon made an unbeaten 28 off 44 balls. At the other end, Tanzid Hasan Tamim was blasting 17 runs off only 13 balls. Najmul Hossain Shanto endured a horror day with the bat, managing zero runs from three balls. Tawhid Hridoy was Bangladesh’s star, notching up 51 off 78 balls. Mehidy Hasan Miraz was the next best with a 25-ball 28.
From start to finish, Sri Lankan bowlers displayed phenomenal ability with A Fernando – the pick of them. He bowled seven overs at a cost of just 33 runs and took three key wickets. Dushmantha Chameera, too, was on top of his game, taking three wickets like Fernando for 51 runs in eight overs. Wanindu Hasaranga strengthened the bowling unit, with figures of 2/35 in 8.4 overs. Dunith a Wellalage complemented the bowling attack by taking two wickets for 33 runs in eight overs.
Bangladesh’s batting order buckled when faced with the pressure. Shamim Hossain could only score 12 runs off 18 balls as the team was bundled out for a mere total of 186 runs.
