Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Dominates NBA with Cover Honor and Contract Extension

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the 26-year-old star guard for the Oklahoma City Thunder was, until recently, living as high on life as any player in the game. He was NBA 2K26’s cover athlete, a nod to his phenomenal overachieving last season. He averaged an impressive 32.7 points, 6.4 assists and five rebounds per game. This phenomenal production cemented his reputation as one of the league’s best players.

The Thunder, led as usual by Gilgeous-Alexander’s guard revolution, finished with a league-best 68-14 record this season. They not only dominated their rivals but outscored opponents by an average of 12.9 points, marking the highest average in NBA history. For their part, the Thunder were incredible on the biggest stage in 2012 NBA Finals. They fought tooth and nail to a grueling seventh game over the Indiana Pacers and won it.

Adding to his bevy of accolades, Gilgeous-Alexander signed one, a four-year max contract extension for $285 million. Terms of the deal This landmark agreement guarantees that he will continue to be one of the Thunder’s most important men at least through the 2030-31 season. Swift announcement of the contract extension In a surprising swift move, the contract extension was announced on July 8, 2025, one week after signing the agreement.

This summer has been particularly fruitful for Gilgeous-Alexander’s development. In doing so he has brought accolades, glory and a massive new contract to his university. His additions around the Thunder really pop. He is still key to their hope of winning a title.
