Arsenal Pursues Viktor Gyokeres as Talks Advance

Arsenal Football Club should go all out to make Viktor Gyokeres their next signing. The 27-year-old forward only had a great season on Sporting CP. Arsenal and Sporting are apparently very advanced in discussion. The Gunners are hoping to bolster their attacking options ahead of the new season beginning.

Gyokeres enjoyed a breakout year last season, netting 54 times in 52 matches in all competitions. His prolific scoring helped propel Sporting to one of their best runs of form in franchise history. He played an important role in helping the team claim the league title and the Portuguese Cup. Gyokeres put on a Showstopper performance during the UEFA Champions League. His hat-trick against Manchester City last season in the Champions League is just one example of how he’s able to pull off performances on the biggest stages.

Ever since he joined Sporting, Gyokeres has proven to be an immensely valuable asset for the team. On a personal level, he’s scored an incredible 97 goals in 102 appearances. This is evidenced by his 11 goals in 17 matches in European competitions, showcasing his ability to shine in big matches. His standout performances have raised his overall profile and have contributed to a stunning rise in his value on the open market.

As per transfer website Transfermarkt, Gyokeres’ market value has tripled in two years, currently at a handsome £75 million. As a result, he’s experienced an unprecedented increase in his value. It was under £1 million when he moved to Coventry City from Brighton in the summer of 2021. During his time at Coventry, Gyokeres found the back of the net with an impressive 43 goals in two-and-a-half seasons. This incredible showing allowed him to become a mainstay in the Championship.

Sporting’s president, Frederico Varandas, has been clear regarding Gyokeres’ availability this summer. As proof, he pointed to when his club refused to consider offers below £59 million (€70 million) for the forward. Varandas has openly fought claims of the supposed ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with Gyokeres’ agent. This deal allegedly enabled Gyokeres to exit for an agreed price of £50.8 million (€60 million), plus a further £8.4 million (€10 million) in performance-related add-ons.

With negotiations ongoing, Gyokeres has been given clearance by Sporting to hold off his return to pre-season training. Originally due to report back on Monday, the deadline now for his return has been extended to Friday as negotiations with Arsenal grow persisting. Nonetheless, this latest development indicates that both clubs remain committed to getting a deal done. They’re hoping to see Gyokeres pulling on the gooner white Arsenal colors next season.

Arsenal’s interest in Gyokeres highlights their intent to strengthen their squad following a season that saw them competing for top honors. Management knows they require a top-drawer striker who can provide goals on a regular basis. Gyokeres is in red-hot form, and he’s a player who truly loves to play under pressure. In terms of what Arsenal needs, he’s absolutely a perfect fit.
