Dyami Brown Seeks Redemption and Growth with Jacksonville Jaguars

Dyami Brown, formerly a third-round draft pick of the Washington Commanders, couldn’t be happier for a fresh start with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He’s certainly poised to shake things up on his new team! After four disappointing years in the nation’s capital, Brown signed a one-year, $9.5 million deal with the Jaguars. He is the one most poised to take advantage of a greatly increased workload in their dynamic attack.

In 2021 the Commanders selected Brown. He showed the promise of the player he could become during an extraordinary collegiate run at North Carolina. In his last two years, he recorded 106 receptions and accumulated 2,133 yards. He found the end zone 20 times as well, forming a lethal tandem with QB Sam Howell. Making the leap to the NFL was a different story. Over the first three years with the Commanders, Brown recorded only 29 receptions in 47 games and struggled to emerge as a complementary target to star receiver Terry McLaurin, who consistently surpassed 1,000 receiving yards each season.

All hope seemed lost early on, a four year Brown renaissance was on the way. After that, in the last six weeks of his third and final collegiate season, he had 16 receptions for 159 yards. In the process, that year he set career highs in receptions and receiving yards. In Washington’s playoff games, he actually tied McLaurin for most catches and outgained him by two yards, ending with 229 to McLaurin’s 227. Just look at what he did to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. With those five grabs for 89 yards and a touchdown, he was central to the Commanders’ shock 23-20 upset win.

Now with the Jaguars, Brown reveals enthusiasm for his added opportunities. He imagines an explosive offense with three fast receivers that can play inside and out.

“At the end of the day, we want to come in and find our identity of who we are and who we’re going to be,” said Brown.

Brown’s confidence comes from not just that talent base, but the chemistry he has already started to develop with future superstar quarterback Trevor Lawrence during limited spring practices. Lawrence in particular has been impressed by Brown’s versatility and how he’s fit into the Jaguars’ system.

“He’s picked up the system really quickly… he’s gotten the ball a lot because it seems like he’s always in the right spot,” Lawrence commented.

Brown’s versatility, quickness and overall offensive potential are things the coaching staff envisions will help open up their entire offense. Liam Coen, the Jaguars’ offensive coordinator, emphasized the need to diversify Brown’s route tree beyond what he experienced in Washington.

“Part of the selling point to have him come here was, ‘Man, we really want to continue to diversify your route tree and have you do more. You’re not just a screen, jet sweep, vertical threat,’” Coen explained.

Even though he faced difficulty this past season, Brown is still focused on developing the best game possible. He knows that it will require an extraordinary level of attention and commitment for him to achieve his potential.

“That’s just staying focused and locked in,” he stated.

As Brown continues this new chapter with Jacksonville, there’s no denying the heavy expectations. Analysts can’t help but get excited by his upside. They think he can finish with career-high numbers in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns by the close of the 2025 season.

Dyami Brown takes on a larger role in a ascending offense. He’s extremely motivated to put himself on the map in Jacksonville and show effort like hell he can be an elite weapon. Talent and experience aside, it’s the collection of talent in his first profession that has him most excited about the future.

“And I think with the offense that we have and the players that we have, we can make a lot of things happen,” Brown concluded.

For Brown, this opportunity is more than just a new beginning. It is his opportunity at redemption and to realize the potential that had once made him such a highly coveted prospect. As he runs onto the field with the Jaguars, there will be no greater expectations than on him. He’s been on the hunt to establish his legacy in Jacksonville.
