Blaze Triumph Over Durham in Women’s T20 Encounter

In a high-scoring thriller of the Women’s T20 Blast, the Blaze blasted past Durham. They posted a challenging total of 188/6 in their full quota of overs. The match, played at the home ground of the Blaze, featured standout efforts from both teams. Kirstie Gordon’s side, showcasing their batting firepower, had put them on the backfoot and despite a spirited effort – with no little danger – they succumbed to 154-4.

Heather Graham, MVP-esque, carries the Blaze on her back Opening the batting in a must-win match, she scored an incredible 73 runs from only 47 balls. Her innings were key to posting a difficult target for Durham to chase. Joining her was Ella Claridge, who played a valuable hand with an undefeated knock of 51 off only 36 balls. Bex Odgers started off well by contributing 54 runs and set a great example. Her strong performance carried the Blaze to an impressive team total.

Innings three from the Blaze was marked by blistering fielding, headlined by wicketkeeper Mia Rogers. With three of them dismissed via the stumping, she took major pressure off her Durham opponent batters. Phoebe Turner stepped up to the occasion and showed her wicket-taking capabilities with a bowling performance of 1-15 in her four overs. She did a great job limiting Durham’s chances to score the entire game.

In reply, Durham looked to pursue the target but found themselves under pressure as the Blaze all-around attack bowled in a tight and composed fashion. Suzie Bates top-scored for Durham with 48 runs while Hollie Armitage provided good support with 41 runs. Southby stole the show with a personally high T20-best performance. She made 64 and she anchored the innings really well.

It was Kathryn Bryce who led the Blaze’s bowling attack with unmistakable authority. In reply, Phoebe and Sophie Turner’s accurate medium pace forced the Durham batsmen on to the back foot, finding it difficult to get into their innings. With the ball in hand, Perry had quite an influential mark. She finished her spell with exceptional figures of 2 for 23.

Durham battled bravely, their valiant innings concluded at 154-4 off 20 overs. They did not meet the extremely low mark that the Blaze had aimed for. Both teams deserved to be there based on their remarkable skill and high levels of determination that defined the goal-filled contest. The Blaze declared victory this time.
