Australia Maintains Slim Advantage Over West Indies in Ongoing Test Series

Australia finds itself in an unfamiliar yet safe place, with a 45-run lead over West Indies. The drama escalates as Day 3 of their Test match draws near! The visitors were able to quickly overpower the opposition and score 286 runs in their first innings, while West Indies only managed 253 runs in return. This game will be the second Test of the summer series. Australia are 1-0 up at the moment after winning the first Test.

Brandon King was West Indies’ highest scorer, making 75 runs to help lift the team. His effort was bolstered by John Campbell, who added 40 runs, but the West Indies batting lineup struggled against the Australian bowling attack. Alzarri Joseph and Shamar Joseph staged a key partnership to ensure victory. They put on 51 runs between them, steadying the ship at a key moment in an otherwise chaotic innings.

Australia’s first innings total of 286 was underpinned by a brilliant middle order performance. They were presented with an equally intimidating test by Jaylen Seales of the West Indies. He gave a dynamite performance near the end of day two. Seales quickly took down both Australian openers, as he finished with 2-5 wickets. His influence turned the tide, lifting the spirits and hope of a young West Indies team to dizzy heights.

Nathan Lyon was the only Australian bowler to shine during the Test, taking three wickets for 75 runs. His experience was to prove critical in breaking what looked like matchwinning partnerships and applying pressure on the West Indies batsmen. Sam Konstas had a disappointing outing, failing to reach double figures for the third time in four innings. Usman Khawaja had a torrid time at the crease, scoring just two runs before Jayden Seales had him trapped lbw. Seales picked up where he’d left off, removing Konstas for a four-ball duck.

As Australia begins day three, they’ll look to build on their current 45-run cushion. They will ride their impressive bowling to rule the game. West Indies will be keen to shift the momentum and look for ways to tackle the Australian bowlers with aplomb.
