Rong Niu, better known as Red Panda, is an internationally acclaimed Chinese-American circus performer. Jackson recently returned from breaking her left wrist during her MVP-performance at the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup final. She took a tumble from her custom-made unicycle, which stands about eight feet tall. The collision occurred directly on the court during the halftime performance.
The crash was in the heart of Downtown Minneapolis. Red Panda was still wowing audiences with her amazing routine, the crowning jewel of hundreds of basketball games. Immediately following the bad fall, she was driven by family members to the nearest hospital, where she physically waited for 11 hours before treatment. Throughout her stay in the hospital, two fierce advocates from the Minnesota Lynx had her back. They provided steadfast comfort and encouragement during her terrifying experience.
Red Panda’s agency, McAfee & Co., expressed their support for the acrobat, stating, “Red Panda thanks everyone for all the kind wishes and support. It means the world to her.”
After spending days in the hospital, Red Panda is on her way home and her recovery will start in earnest. Time for her to see an orthopedic surgeon. This specialist will evaluate her injury and guide her in choosing the optimal healing strategy. Her recovery will take a few months, and we’ll be taking her shows off the road for the duration.
Despite the tragic turn of events, support continues to pour in from her fellow athletes. Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever shared heartfelt sentiments during a postgame locker room celebration, saying, “Red Panda, if you’re watching, we love you.”
Through his antics, Red Panda has become a ubiquitous performer at sporting events. Take a look at last month when she blew the crowd away at Game 5 of the NBA Finals in Oklahoma City. It’s her magnetic presence that has audiences hanging on her every move that secured her as an important role in the game-day experience.
As she starts her recovery journey, Patrick Figley, Red Panda’s rep, emphasizes her profound appreciation. She admits to being bowled over by the amazing support she’s gotten from fans and fellow artists. “She is very grateful,” Figley remarked.
