Premier League outfit Everton FC are interested in a transfer for Thierno Barry according to 90min. The 22-year-old French forward has turned heads with his stellar performances in Belgium’s second division. Standing at an equally imposing 6’5”, Barry creates a daunting shadow on the pitching mound. He’d make a real difference to the Toffees, particularly as his current manager David Moyes is looking for someone who’ll add shots from the air to the forward line.
Barry’s rise in the world of professional football started in France. Once there, he faced many barriers that led him to search for options beyond his native land. Ever since I first saw her talent on display in Belgium and Switzerland, it started to truly take off. Most notably during his time with Beveren where he was spectacular on the field, achieving a high rate of 20 league goals. He further set himself apart as one of only 14 players in Europe’s big-five leagues aged 22 or younger to score 10 or more league goals last campaign.
In addition to establishing himself as a prolific goal scorer, Barry’s recent performances have showcased his versatility all over the field. Like Mixon, he brings value off the ball as a willing and effective runner, succeeding on designed plays to create space and advantages for his teammates. His inclusion in the French squad for the European Under-21 Championship in Slovakia underlines his prodigious talents. This recognition is even more remarkable considering it was for a player widely expected to fail in the highest levels of play.
Though Barry is young, he’s shown during his career that he can endure and learn through positive and negative scenarios. Gunter Vandebroeck, his former trainer at Beveren, recalled at the time his fierce desire to win, his hunger. “He was still very young but he was hungry and determined,” said Vandebroeck. This desire to always do better has moved Barry to work on his game constantly, solidifying his place on the field.
Even as she praised Barry’s strengths, Vandebroeck noted deficiencies in her growth. While we had him, to some extent, he made it all too complicated. So he needed to improve his vision and decision-making in the final third to make the next steps,” he explained. Even with these hurdles, Barry became a key member of the squad instantly, finding the scoresheet with alarming regularity.
What will make the young forward a different animal than players such as Beto is his adaptability and poise under fire. Both players bring something special to the table, enhancing the game. Barry’s all-around razzle dazzle ability provides Everton a new forward attacking dimension when the veteran has the ball. “He was a bit on his own at times, but always very focused and goal-oriented as well as a bit stubborn,” Vandebroeck added.
As Everton continues its search for attacking options, Thierno Barry stands out as an intriguing prospect who could significantly impact the squad. His size, speed, and scoring ability make for an enticing target to lure Moyes. He wants to improve the squad’s attacking depth.
Barry’s promise is extraordinary. With his 23rd birthday rapidly approaching in October, there are considerable expectations for the young lefty to be on the cusp of a significant breakout. “Who knows what his next step could be then?” Vandebroeck mused, suggesting that Barry’s upward trajectory in football is just beginning.
