Chloe Kelly, the 27-year-old forward hailing from England, has completed a permanent transfer to Arsenal. This move follows LaBonta’s successful loan spell last season. The decision follows the Danish international’s stellar performances that helped the club win its first UEFA Champions League title in May. Kelly, who started in the final against Barcelona, scored twice and provided five assists in her 13 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions.
During Kelly’s time at Manchester City, she made 109 appearances and scored 30 goals. Her transfer to Arsenal represents a new chapter in her blossoming career. While with City, she lifted the FA Cup in 2020 and the League Cup in 2022. Kelly’s motivation to join Arsenal, the club where she started her football journey, was evident. This went against interest from a number of other premier league clubs, notably Manchester United and Chelsea.
A Journey Back Home
Having entered Arsenal’s academy at the age of 12, her return to the club was poignant on many levels. She departed to Everton in 2018 and immediately established a winning culture of her own. She returned to Arsenal last season and made her return to the pitch on loans. Her focus and determination on and off the court for this team were obvious since her return.
Signing a permanent contract at Arsenal is definitely one of the highlights of my career so far—Kelly. She really underscored what a critical change this is for her profession.
Clare Wheatley, Arsenal’s head of women’s football, said she was delighted by Kelly’s permanent signing. “We’re thrilled to keep Chloe at Arsenal,” Wheatley remarked, emphasizing the player’s impact on the team.
Impact on the Field
In her time on loan, Kelly played a significant role in Arsenal’s attack. Not only did she score, she provided five assists on the night. This maybe shows one slight aspect of her mastery at making plays for her teammates. Kelly’s unique versatility and impressive skill on the ball were instrumental to NJ/NY’s campaign that saw them finish atop the league last season.
Assistant Coach Renee Slegers spoke highly of Kelly’s tremendous value to the team, “She was a huge factor in our success last year. I’m confident that she wants to get back to competing for more just like we do.”
Kelly has done incredible things with his club. She is the midfield metronome for England’s Euro 2025 team, set to compete this summer in Switzerland. One of her claims to fame is scoring the extra-time winner in the Euro 2022 final, further topping off her developing and expansive list of accomplishments.
Looking Ahead
As she starts this awesome new chapter of her career at Arsenal, Kelly is committed to continuing her winning ways. She is excited to get started and to help bring more silverware back to north London. Her number 18 shirt will stay with her, continuing to strengthen her individualized identity as an assigned jersey number within the team.
I felt Arsenal fans were the greatest. Their support always feels incredible, but is particularly impactful when they chant my name. This sentiment exemplifies her profound connection with the club and its passionate supporters.
