During this year’s free agency, the Charlotte Hornets signed 24-year-old guard Mann to a promising three-year, $24 million deal. This trade comes on the heels of Mann’s deal just days ago from the Oklahoma City Thunder. He came into the league as the No. 18 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. The Hornets got Mann in return as part of a deal that sent veteran forward Gordon Haywood to Oklahoma City.
Mann’s move to the Hornets represented a pivotal shift in his career path. Those freakish numbers only came over the course of 13 total games last season, as he proved that he has superstar potential by averaging 14.1 points per game. He averaged only 24.5 minutes on the court, but quickly established himself as a key player in Charlotte. Despite injuries being an issue, he had a huge impact during his short stint with the team.
Mann’s 2021 season would prove to be his last due to health complications. He incurred a herniated disc in his back that kept him on the sidelines for all but the better part of half the year. The injury raised concerns about his long-term performance. He has been working diligently on his recovery and is eager to contribute to the Hornets in the upcoming season.
In addition to Mann’s arrival, Charlotte recently bolstered its roster by acquiring Collin Sexton in a trade with the Utah Jazz. Sexton’s addition further deepens the Hornets’ backcourt rotation. Now, the team’s challenge is figuring out how to best fit both of their new stars into their system.
Mann is looking forward to his first full season with Charlotte. His goal is to make the most of the opportunities this new environment presents. The Hornets organization is highly encouraged with what they’re seeing in him. They know his scoring touch will be a huge asset in the way they want to play offense going forward.
