The Los Angeles Lakers have unveiled an offbeat uniform concept that they expect to use in the near future. This new design revisits the iconic purple look that fans remember from the 2022-23 season, marking a nostalgic return to a beloved aesthetic.
There are a number of stand-out features on the Statement Edition uniform that honor the franchise’s deep history. The words Leave a Legacy are printed in huge letters above the tag. It represents the team’s years of commitment to continuous improvement and high quality standards. The back of the neck features the number 17 in large, white font. Of course, it serves as a tribute to the Lakers’ incredible 17 NBA championships.
The new uniform boasts a sophisticated collar with bold purple and white stripes. This aesthetic design decision makes this interactive beautiful. Most strikingly, black accents like those found on the sides of the jersey have been removed completely and better clean up the focus of player’s uniforms.
It adds to their colorful and electric collection, which already includes the golden Icon Edition, the fresh white Association Edition, and the yearly released City Edition uniform. These matching pieces make it easy for fans to support their squad in different ways all season long.
The formal announcement came via a joint news release dated Monday, June 30, 2025. Perhaps most importantly, the Lakers wanted to make clear that this version looks and feels very different from previous uniforms with a purple base.
