Guard Alijah Martin, a dynamic 6-foot-2 scorer from national champion Florida Atlantic University, is the top Heat prospect picked No. 39 overall in the 2025 NBA Draft. Now, he is set to leave his true mark with the Toronto Raptors. The young athlete enjoyed a breakout season, putting up 14.4 points per game. He was instrumental in helping the Gators achieve a stellar 36-4 record and their third national championship last season.
Martin’s trip to Toronto wasn’t exactly smooth sailing. He encountered the first major adversity on his road to the Raptors. What he didn’t realize was that he had left behind all the necessary paperwork needed to take this trip. Yet at this time, he has been diligent to keep all personal paperwork on hand to prepare himself for such a draft in New York.
In addition to his impressive scoring ability, Martin’s experience includes being a starter for two Final Four teams, showcasing his talent on the national stage. He was an instrumental part of guiding Florida Atlantic to its first Final Four in 2023. He would then go on to transfer to Florida, where he played his final season of college ball.
When the Toronto Raptors showed interest in taking a look at Martin, he went to work. Using Customer Support, he was able to be rebooked on another flight and arrived in Canada later that same day.
“Oh, I can just show a picture, you know how you do with the ID,” – Alijah Martin
With his college career coming to an end right before the draft, Martin was excited about the chance to find that opportunity at the next level. The Raptors’ decision to draft him marks a significant milestone in his basketball journey, as he transitions from a successful college athlete to a professional player in the NBA.
