Harrington and Hensby Lead at U.S. Senior Open

Padraig Harrington and Mark Hensby are tied for the lead after the opening round. Both players closed with a 3-under par 67 at the Broadmoor to tie for the third and fourth spots, respectively. Our beautiful, challenging, and inspiring historic course is located at 6,000 feet elevation, at the foot of Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado Springs. It provides exclusive, grisly challenges that push all contestants beyond their limits.

Harrington made a brilliant front-nine dash to the lead. It’s a stretch of four holes that he capitalized on perfectly, scoring all four of his birdies there. His game hit a rough patch on the par-3 15th hole. Instead of a majestic drive down the fairway, he sent a tee shot deep into the woods. Reflecting on the round, Harrington acknowledged the pressure of such moments, stating, “You never feel good after you’ve lost a ball, so your head is a little scrambled.”

Hensby was really on his game, carding seven birdies on the front nine. At one point he was 6-under to the good. Unfortunately, he was unable to hold onto that momentum, closing with a bogey-bogey run on the final two holes. Hensby on what he was most upset with, “It’s just frustrating. I played like sh*t.”
