The Brooklyn Nets made headlines during the 2025 NBA Draft by utilizing all five of their first-round picks, becoming the first team in NBA history to achieve this feat. The Nets owned three of those picks in the Thursday night draft on June 22, 2025. They drafted at Nos. 8, 19, 22, 26, and 27. With these picks, they hoped to set the tone for a developmental year that figures to define the 2025-26 campaign. The team had a good value pick in Egor Demin. He throws like Mahomes, but right now he’s 6-foot-9 Russia’s best pass, joining us courtesy of BYU. Marks expressed his enthusiasm about the new additions, stating, “I’m thrilled with the group we got tonight.”
Brooklyn was able to land international combo guard Nolan Traore—who stands at 6-foot-5—a bonus to their already stacked backcourt depth. With the last of its three additions, the team traded for Drake Powell, a hyper-athletic, UNC-produced versatile wing. They signed Israeli PG Ben Saraf, a kid with serious upside. The Nets finished all their first-round picks by taking Danny Wolf, a skilled big man out of Michigan. Nonetheless, he is a likely candidate to provide Sacramento with useful depth in their frontcourt.
That’s now up to Brooklyn’s head coach, Jordi Fernandez, as they look to incorporate these young, high-upside players alongside the pieces they have in place. The team is committed to learning and growing. They must figure out what to do with the futures of starting forward Cameron Johnson and restricted free agent Cam Thomas. The Nets have experienced significant changes in their lineup since trading star point guard Kyrie Irving to Dallas in 2023, leading to a revolving door of point guards.
The decision to focus heavily on guards and versatile players reflects Brooklyn’s strategy to rejuvenate their roster following a challenging period. This is a completely different look with the addition of these five new players as the team moves into a new era of Washington basketball.
