They came back brilliantly in their second innings, declaring at lunch after piling up a colossal 526-6. Graeme van Buuren was instrumental in the team’s continued success, improving his overnight tally of 364-3. He went on to make a blistering 70 runs, with a total of 175, before being caught at wide long-on by Alex Thomson.

Bancroft started the day on 170 not out, and looked in complete control of proceedings at the wicket. Along with him, James Bracey added a counterattacking 43 off 38 balls, showing positive intent. The innings saw moments of brilliance from Zaman Akhter, who struck sixes off two of his first three balls, further enhancing Gloucestershire’s position.

As the match played out, Derbyshire was presented with a considerable task. They had to chase down 316 runs in a minimum of 67 overs to win. The task seemed daunting, particularly with David Lloyd unable to open the batting due to injury, which left Derbyshire’s lineup searching for stability.

In reply, Derbyshire’s first-wicket pair of Came and Caleb Jewell delivered an equally stunning response. They put on a brilliant partnership of 177 in 31.3 overs. Jewell shone with 83 runs in only 80 balls, hitting 12 boundaries. On the other hand, Came played a gritty innings to protect 91 runs off 118 balls with seven fours and three sixes. With all the momentum Derbyshire had after their opening pair’s showing, they began to come unstuck as they entered the second half of their innings. Gloucestershire’s Graeme van Buuren turned the tide, claiming four wickets for 64 runs, showcasing his exceptional bowling skills and putting pressure on the Derbyshire batsmen.
