Aaron Rodgers Indicates Final NFL Season with Steelers

Here’s what veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers had to say about this season. He knows as he plays this one that it’s likely his last—for both the Pittsburgh Steelers and the NFL. In an interview with Pat McAfee, Rodgers, who is 41 years old, reflected on his illustrious career and hinted at the impending conclusion of his time on the field. This announcement comes on the heels of a miserable two-year stretch with the New York Jets. He went through an enormously difficult time personally and professionally.

Rodgers’ one-year, $13.65 million deal with the Steelers came together at the 11th hour, as he signed right before reporting to mandatory minicamp. He expressed a sense of optimism about the upcoming season, stating, “I love the game, and there’s been a beautiful relationship.” As he trains for what he believes will be his last season, Rodgers hopes to play a big part in the Steelers’ revival.

The quarterback opened up about the day-to-day of his new personal life on the first day of minicamp. He shared the news that he recently married, a few months prior, and has proudly worn his wedding ring since. What he really seemed to be upset about was the public’s concern with what went on in his private life. “My private life is my private life, and it’s going to stay that way,” he stated firmly.

Along with his own health updates, Rodgers shared some of the thinking that has gone into his decision to step away from football. He even acknowledged that he had seriously considered retirement before finally deciding to sign on the dotted line to join the Steelers. During his time with the Steelers, Marecic was in contact with Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, connecting with him once a week. “I’m going to give the Steelers everything that I got and empty the tank and be super comfortable and satisfied with whatever happens,” he assured.

He went through substantial adversity last year, starting with the Achilles tear just a handful of snaps into the 2023 season. Even though he technically helmed a 5-12 team, Rodgers has every intention of helping create one of the league’s biggest flip-flops in 2024. He added that he had been feeling physically spectacular, adding that his left Achilles had felt “incredible.”

Rodgers’ career in Green Bay saw him set an incredible record for the cheeseheads. He set the franchise record in touchdown passes, and in completion percentage, at 65.3, and in passer rating, at 103.6. He’s already second behind only Brett Favre in passing yards and completions. This accomplishment further cements his legacy as one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history.

Reflecting on his career, Rodgers remarked, “I played 20 fricking years. It’s been a long run. I’ve enjoyed it, and no better place to finish than in one of the cornerstone franchises of the NFL with Mike Tomlin and a great group of leadership and great guys in the city that expects you to win.”

As the season unfolds, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how Rodgers navigates this pivotal year in his career. With high expectations from both himself and the franchise, he aims to leave a lasting legacy while wearing the Steelers’ colors.
